29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:29
Jesus is the Lamb of God. This title has been repeated throughout the Bible’s history. It is found right at the beginning, near the creation and just after sin.
21 Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
Genesis 3:21
God had to kill an animal to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve. Although it is not stated, we believe that it was a lamb, the first sacrifice and first physical lesson about the Lamb of God.
But the Bible says that it couldn’t just be any lamb. It had to be perfect for sacrifice.
5 Your lamb shall be without[a] blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
Exodus 12:5
Just as the physical lamb could not have any blemishes, Jesus too had to be a perfect sacrifice. His life could not be stained with sin. His actions but be perfect and blameless. How hard it must have been for a human Jesus to live an entire life in this sinful world with all its temptations and not succumb. But Jesus did it.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:21
Just as the image of the Lamb of God is seen right at the beginning, it is also present at the end.
But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
Revelation 21:22
The Lamb of God, Jesus, is the Alpha and Omega. He was at the beginning at will be at the end. He was God’s perfect sacrifice and the only reason we have hope in this world. Let us never forget that.
